Żeńska Orkiestra Dęta "Olimpia"

olimpia1Olimpia is a female wind orchestra of about 50 musicians and 10 majorettes from Szczecin. It was founded in 1974. Its current conductor, Jan Skroś (with an excellent pedigree as a former musician within the Phiharmonic Orchestra) uses his obvious high standard of musical knowledge to develop the band members’ music skills. This further ensures that Olimpia plays music of extremely high quality and helps to build up its extensive international repertoire. Olimpia is a very well traveled band. It is often requested to take part in numerous annual musical festivals not only in Poland but in various places in Europe. There it won many prizes. The orchestra is very well known. For this reason it is often invited to perform concerts and marching displays throughout Europe. The maritime theme of its uniform is influenced by the fact that it is situated in Szczecin (Stettin), a city close to the German border and the Baltic sea.
