Musikkapelle Obermarkersdorf (Austria)
The Musikkapelle Obermarkersdorf came into being in 1921 at the voluntary fire brigade. Currently it has 50 band members. The well known Viennese director of music prof. Karl Zaruba composed a march especially for this orchestra – the “Gruß aus Obermarkersdorf” (Greetings z Obermarkersdorf) and dedicated it to this band. The orchestra can be proud of various recordings – amongst other music pieces also this march. Every year with success it takes part in marching and concert competitions. The band´s speciality is playing marching music combined with an artistic parade. The Musikkapelle Obermarkersdorf plays a broad repertoire containing modern and classical music as well as film and musical music. The orchestra already played various concerts in Austria and abroad.
The Orchestra was founded in 1969. Since than the fun of making music and the rising level of the musicians’ skills accompany the orchestra’s success. Every year the orchestra organizes a training week during which the musicians develop their knowledge and skills in making music. This enables them to present the best during their often performed concerts. The orchestra frequently takes part in various competitions in Germany and abroad (Slovakia, Belgium, Austria, Latvia). The varied repertoire contains music pieces of Lloyd Webber, George Gershwin, medleys of the Beatles and Abba, as well as classical music or polka und marching music.
It came into beeing in 1958 on the initiative of the then management of the Chemical Company “Stilon”. Since 1992 the orchestra has been acting in the City Cultural Centre. The Town Hall in Gorzów Wlkp. patronizes the orchestra. For the last 16 years, Mr. Bolesław Malicki has been managing the group. There are teachers, old boys and students from schools of music, and musicians of the former Garrison Orchestra, in the orchestra. The Wind Orchestra Gorzów plays successfully transcriptions of serious, film, folk, march and world popular and jazz music. The other activity is the sacral music. For the last 50 years the orchestra has given over 2500 concerts for the music lovers in Poland and abroad. It was often rewarded.
