The orchestra was founded in 1880. The traditional clothing of the Attersee's raftsmen was the pattern for the today's musician's uniform – a special pride for the musicians. There are now 74 actic musicians, 6 vivandières and 3 honorary members. Since 2009 Herbert Ehrnleitner is chairman of the association. Since 2014 Andreas Reiter and Johannes Vogel are directors of music with equal rights. Drum major is Herbert Bauernfeind.
In the last years the orchestra plays it concerts at Level C gaining the status excellent or very good when judged by a professional jury. The band's main emphasis is the so called music in motion. Since 2001 the musicians march with its show at level E. Next to numerous successes at Land level, the orchestra and its show took part in the Mid Europe 2010 in Schladming. It actively influences the social life of its region organizing and participating in several events during the year. The annual concert's highlight is the so called Cäcilienkonzert in November. There the musicians play traditional wind music as well as modern pop music and musical pieces. The band gives also concerts abroad. For this reason it already traveled to Tuscany, South Tyrol, Belgium, Germany etc.
