The orchestra was established in 1955. It is located in the range of the leading Polish orchestras. At reviews and festival it gains high prizes. In its possessions are numerous important awards and dyplomas. A lot of times it presented with successes its abilities abroad during international festivals for wind orchestras. For its activities tin 2005 the orchestra got the honourable badge "Za zasługi dla Województwa Wielkopolskiego" (For theservices for the Greatpolish voivodeship). Currently the band's artistic director and conductor is Jarosław Goerlich.

 
In the year 2006 the orchestra started to cooperate with a dancing group. Girls from the Ballet School in Poznań work under the leadership of Alicja Curujew - educationalist of that school.
