The Orchestra was founded in 1972 and has already a rich tradition. It started as a school's orchestra and – through out several decades - developed into an association from and for music fans of all ages. Pupils, students and people who finished their high school career several years ago – they all found their ways into the orchestra to create music. From the town Greifswald, the nearer and farer surroundings – the approximately 30 activ amateur musicians are a constant element of city festivals, village fêtes, concerts at health resorts, Chinese lantern processions, parades and other cultural events.

They play a very wide ranged repertoire – classical music, rock, pop, traditional music and pieces of musicals' and movies' soundtracks. The Orchestras takes part in a lot of competitions, workshops and other events within the state and throughout whole Germany. It goes on journeys in Germany and other European countries. Until now the orchestra performed in Würzburg, Thum, Bad Lausick, Cologne, Halstenbek, as well as in Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, Sweden etc. Since 2004 Klaus Listemann ist the artistic director of the orchestra.
