ALTE KAMERADEN – our festival
The well known composer of marching music – Carl Teike – lived in our town. He created the march “Alte Kameraden“. We are proud about this cultural heritage. For this reason we organize an annual big festival of wind music. Orchestras from all over Europe come to visit our town. The bands present not only marching music, but also pop, folk, soundtracks and transkriptions of classical music. We show entertaining marching and concert competitions as well as dynamic orchester shows. Our brightful event has a big impact on the cooperation of musicians from different European regions. Our festival hosts each time a minimum of eight orchestras.
Since more than 120 years, the march “Alte Kameraden” is in the repertoires of a lot of wind orchestras. He was played during the opening and the final ceremonies of olympiads, at the Broadway in New York as well as on the Champs Elysées in Paris. In London he was heard during the coronation of King Georg VI and another time in 1959 for Queen Elisabeth II.
Carl Teike (1864-1922) created a dozen of marches in Landsberg (Gorzowie Wlkp.). He was buried on the cementary in Landsberg.
In 2007, there was revealed a memorial tablet on the former residence of Carl Teike (before war: Heinersdorferstrasse, today: ulica Kosynierów Gdyńskich).
In 2018 we cooperated for the first time with the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB). Since then, every second year during our festival take place the qualifications for the World Championships of Marching Show Bands.
